Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Mar 19 (UNI) Thousands of devotees participated in the annual “Panguni Therottam” (temple car festival) of the renowned Lord Subramanya Swamy Temple, the first of the six abodes of Lord Murugan at Thiruparankundram on the outskirts of Madurai city here on Wednesday.
The car festival is held as part of the ongoing 14-day annual ‘Panguni Brahmotsavam’ festival.
Religious fervor permeated Thiruparankundram, as the devotees pulled the aesthetically decorated bigger wooden car of ‘Lord Sri Subramanya Swamy’ and his consort ‘Goddess Sri Deivanai’ mounted on a smaller wooden car around the important streets, this morning.
The temple car festival celebrated in the Tamil month of ‘Panguni’ is one of the important events at the temple attracting devotees from various parts of the State.
Police made elaborate security arrangements in and around Thiruparankundram, as a precautionary measure in view of the recent protests by Hindu outfits to condemn a bid to conduct animal sacrifice by Islamic outfits on the Thiruparankundram Hill, housing Lord Kasi Viswanathar Temple and Sikandar Badusha Dargah.
