HP by-poll: Over 48 pc polling in 6 hours

Shimla, July 10 (UNI) Over 48 per cent polling was recorded on Wednesday in the first six hours of the bye-elections in Himachal Pradesh's Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh Assembly constituencies, an official said.

Voting began at 7 am and Chief Electoral Officer Manish Garg reported robust participation by 1 pm, with Nalagarh recording a 52 % turnout, Dehra 46.47 %, and Hamirpur 47.05 %.

A total of 12 candidates are contesting on these three seats, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Indian National Congress (INC) fielding three candidates each.


The Election Commission has set up 315 polling stations, deploying 217 teams for the day's proceedings.

A total of 2.59 lakh voters are eligible to cast their ballot. Election results will be declared on July 13.

The Congress currently holds 38 seats and the BJP 27 in the 68-member Assembly.
