Indian scientists identify toxic plants having therapeutic potential

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Researchers from the Guwahati-based Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), has uncovered groundbreaking insights into the medicinal potential of at least 70 poisonous plant species found in India.

The study, ‘Drugs from poisonous plants: Ethnopharmacological relevance to modern perspectives’ led by Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director of IASST, and Bhagya Lakhmi Rajbongshi, Senior Research Fellow said that there are an an array of toxic plants that, when modified, could offer significant therapeutic benefits, according to a statement from the Union Ministry of Science and Technology here.
