Muscat/New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) The Indian Embassy in Muscat, Oman, said on Wednesday that it has assured full support for repatriation of the mortal remains of the Indian national killed in Monday evening’s shooting incident near a Shiite mosque in Muscat, and that embassy officials have visited the three Indians injured in the attack.
In a statement, the Indian Embassy said that Ambassador Amit Narang spoke on Wednesday with Tausif Abbas, the son of Basha Jan Ali Hussain, the Indian who was killed in the shooting incident.
The Ambassador assured full support to the family for the repatriation to India of the mortal remains of Hussain, and all other support the family may need.
The embassy officials have also visited the three Indians who were injured in the shooting incident, in which six people were killed and 28 others injured.
The three Indians are undergoing treatment in Khoula Hospital in Muscat. The Indian Ambassador also spoke with the families of the three Indians and assured all support.
The Ambassador also conveyed sincere appreciation for the prompt action taken by the Omani security agencies in dealing with the crisis and protecting the lives of the innocent civilians, the statement said.
“The Embassy also conveys its sympathies with the families of those who have tragically lost their lives in this incident and wishes a speedy recovery to all those who have been injured," it said.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack that targeted a Shiite mosque in Oman that left at least nine people dead, including the three attackers.
The members of the Islamic State attacked the mosque in the Wadi Al Kabir, on the outskirts of Muscat, on Monday night when Shiite worshippers were commemorating Ashura.
Four Pakistanis, an Indian and a police officer were among those killed.
