Karnataka empty-handed, Badami needs big push: Parameshwara

Badami, June 24 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Tuesday called for a special ₹1,000-crore project to transform Badami town, stressing that the state government, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, lacks the necessary financial resources to execute such a vision independently.
Speaking at a public event in Badami, Parameshwara stated, “We must draw up a comprehensive development plan for Badami and send a proposal to the Centre. Let it be a ₹1,000-crore project — that should not deter us. The streets and the entire town need a facelift. This is not just about numbers — if it takes ₹1,000 crore, so be it.”
Taking a swipe at the state’s fiscal constraint in a lighter vein, the minister said, “We do not have the money. Siddaramaiah does not have the funds. There is nothing in the treasury. Everything — rice, pulses, even oil — has been distributed already. So now, let us go to the Centre with our hands full of ideas, even if our coffers are empty.”
He said the proposed project would not only support urban infrastructure and heritage conservation, but also aid in beautifying the town. “This will make Badami more attractive and functional for both residents and tourists,” he added.
Parameshwara affirmed that his office would ensure all necessary details and documentation are gathered for the proposal. “I will get the information needed, and I will personally follow it up,” he said.
