K'taka DyCM hints at water tariff hike

Bengaluru, June 19 (UNI) After the recent increase in fuel prices in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday hinted at an impending hike in monthly water charges for the city.
The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is currently facing severe financial constraints, as outlined by Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru's development. He highlighted that the agency's financial difficulties have stalled new projects.
"For the past decade, there has been no increase in the water tariff in Bengaluru. This has led to substantial losses for the BWSSB, making it difficult to initiate necessary projects. No financial institution is willing to support us under these conditions," he told reporters here.
