DRG stages protest over death of 14 individuals in Delhi's shelter home

New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) The Disability Rights Group (DRG) staged a protest at Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday, demanding accountability and bringing reforms following the death of 14 individuals with intellectual disabilities at the government-run Asha Kiran shelter home.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the severe issues at the facility, which has been scrutinised multiple times in the past.
In 2015, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) flagged Asha Kiran for being overburdened and inadequately prepared for medical emergencies. A 2017 report by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) further revealed deplorable conditions and neglect. Despite these warnings, no significant action has been taken.
