Bengal to move HC for death penalty to Sanjay Roy: Mamata

Kolkata, Jan 20 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed shock that the judgement of the trial court in the medic rape and murder case did not hold it the rarest of rare cases."In the R.G. Kar junior doctor's rape and murder case, I am really shocked to see that the judgement of the Court today finds that it is not a Rarest of Rare case!," Banerjee said reacting to the life sentence given to Civic Volunteer Sanjay Roy, who has been convicted in thethe murder of woman doctor, who was also raped at her working place RG Kar Hospital on August 9, 2024.Sealdah Civil & Criminal Court's Additional Session Judge JusticAnirban Das on Monday handed the life sentence to the Civic Volunteer attached to Kolkata Police Sanjay Roy in the 31-year-old woman doctor rape and murder case on August 9, 2024.
"I am convinced that it is indeed a rarest of rare cases which demands capital punishment. How could the judgement conclude that it is not a rarest of rare case?" the Bengal CM asked.
