After intense hostilities, calm returns to J&K borders

Srinagar, May 12 (UNI) Borders in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed first calm night in recent days, Army said on Monday.
They said no incident of cross border shelling was reported during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
"The night remained largely peaceful across Jammu & Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days, " an Army statement on Monday said.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a tense spell of cross-border shelling over the past fortnight.
At least 21 civilians , including five children, lost their lives during the shelling in past week. The border clashes, which erupted after the Pahalgam terror attack, also claimed the lives of five personnel.
The situation escalated on May 7 following "Operation Sindoor" — which targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir The strikes were launched in response to the deadly attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead.
After days of shelling and exchanges of fire, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire from Saturday evening providing a breather to residents in the border areas who had been caught in the crossfire.
